Hi Etienne! I’m not sure I completely understand your question, but depending on the paper you’re writing you might phrase your thesis in different kinds of ways. For example, in a philosophy paper or a paper on a lab experiment, you might start your thesis with “In this paper I will” which sounds pretty awkward, but is the generally acceptable way to write papers in those disciplines. If you’re writing and argumentative or persuasive paper, you’ll want your thesis to have an emotional slant, like it suggests in the post, where you say whether something is good or bad and why. If you’re writing a research paper or analysis paper, you don’t want to include emotion, but you do want to be specific about exactly what you’re going to discuss in the paper. In most papers you don’t have to explain in the thesis how you’re going to prove your argument, because that’s what the content of the paper is for :). Sometimes teachers will ask you to that in the prompt though, by indicating what analysis framework you’re using. An example of that would be “In this paper I will use a postcolonial framework to critique the writings of Joseph Conrad and establish that his approach conforms to the racial standards of the time, upholds discriminatory social and moral values, and perpetuates the objectification of people of color.” You probably aren’t being asked to do that, but this is what it might look like if you were :). I think as long as your teacher hasn’t specifically asked you to include your proof in the thesis, then you’re fine to simply do the outline and then proceed to prove your thesis in the content. Best of luck to you! – Amanda

Thanks a lot! Quick question: after writing the thesis statement that includes the outline, what is a good way to announce how we are going to prove the elements in our thesis? (or do we need to if the thesis already includes the outline such as the one on Tacos?) Thank you very much!

Since you need to compare these two theories, ideally your thesis will explain how they are alike and/or different. So, for instance, if both theories can explain attitudes and behavior but have some differences, you might start like this: “While Bandura’s social learning theory and Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory both explain attitudes and behavior, they differ in that [reason 1] and [reason 2].”

You don’t have to come up with multiple differences if they don’t exist, but I would find at least one point of contrast since the instructions say to “critically compare” them — that hints at the idea that you should write about their similarities AND differences.

You could also try our thesis builder, which has a compare and contrast option: https://www.kibin.com/thesis-builder/compare-contrast-topic

Hi Deepika,

I think I’d approach your topic by defining the relationship between implementation and significance: “Free education provided to students in [X] way [benefits/harms] students because A, B, and C.”

In that example, you can plug in the way the free education is implemented (X), say whether it benefits/harms students (taking a stance), and then providing some specific reasons for your claim that it either benefits or harms students.

You might try plugging your ideas into our thesis builder tool for more help: https://www.kibin.com/thesis-builder/type

Best,
Erin
