The first thing you need to do is pick your topic, figure out your stance, and start researching :). So you could write about gun accidents, but that doesn’t necessarily lend itself to a pro/con position. Guns on college campuses is a good topic because it gives you space to say that you support it or are against it. Other gun topics that you could form arguments for are increased gun regulation, banning guns, and increasing requirements for gun ownership, among others. The good news for most of these topics, including guns on campus, is that there are a lot of articles out there on these issues so you’ll have a lot of research to choose from. Once you know your topic and whether you’re for or against that issue, then start reading articles to find sources that agree with your position and sources that object to your position. This will help you learn the major justifications for that support your argument and help you start formulating a rebuttal for the opposition. Then in your paper, you’ll write about three things that support your position, and present one counter argument against your position and refute that. I hope that helps!!

Wow, that’s a lot of practice essays! We don’t have any more for you to practice, but I did find a pretty great resource at DePaul University that might help you practice a few more — this includes both prompts and rubrics, as well as some model essays. Happy writing! https://education.depaul.edu/student-resources/academic-success-center/Documents/501writingprompts.pdf

Do you mean opposing topics to your argument? If so, I think you could examine the aspect you mentioned above: the idea that people believe minors will regret their tattoos when they are older. The permanence of a tattoo is also an argument against your point that you could examine in your paper. Then, you could refute these arguments in favor of your argument. 🙂

I think yes. Only because I am 17 and have two tattoos. And I have not regretted them since. One has a very strong meaning ( a semicolon). And the other not so much ( a dinosaur). But each tell something about me and explain a little about me. Is there opposing topics I can put in my persuasive essay ?

Do you have any valid resources i could use for arguments to extend my essay to 5 pages?

Best,
Jon
