Sounds like a tricky topic! I suppose I would start by considering the factors that lead to dropout rates in the first place. Issues like high rates of absence, low performance in school, and perhaps more complex social and family issues could be indicators that a student may be at risk of dropping out. When developing a thesis centered around developing a solution to a problem, it is often best to start with the causes of the problem and seeing if there are ways to prevent or eliminate the factors that create the problem. So, I would start by brainstorming ideas on why students drop out and move forward from there. I hope that helps!

I am doing my research topic on What are possible solutions to help decrease the dropout rate and I’m looking for some assistance on coming up with a thesis. I need to take a position. Any ideas?

To narrow a topic, the first things you want to think about are what specifically within that topic interests you and what you feel confident writing about. Writing about something that interests you is a lot easier than dragging your knuckles writing an essay that you’re not interested in. 🙂 That being said, for your topic specifically, consider some of the following questions:
-What aspects of modern technology do you want to write about?
-What types of technology affect academic performance?
-What technology impacts academic performance positively?

You could talk about how personal technology (laptops, tablets, cell phones) affects academics in the classroom or outside the classroom, or you could talk about the aspects of modern technology that have a positive impact on student performance, or you could discuss the pros and cons to one specific type of technology. I’d suggest doing some brainstorming to help you think as well. 🙂

Once you’ve got something a bit more specific, you can research the topic to see what kind of evidence is out there to help support your topic.
